The Universal Basic Income

With advancements in AI and automation threatening to eliminate millions of jobs, a proposal for a Universal Basic Income (UBI) is on the table. Every adult citizen would receive a monthly payment sufficient to cover basic needs. Proponents argue it would eradicate poverty, improve public health, and provide a safety net for a changing economy. Opponents worry it would be astronomically expensive, de-incentivize work, and lead to economic stagnation. As a policymaker, you must vote for or against a nationwide UBI pilot program.
