The Gentrification Choice
You are looking for a new apartment in an expensive city. You find a perfect, affordable place in a low-income, culturally vibrant neighborhood that is rapidly gentrifying. You are aware that people like you—more affluent professionals—moving in is driving up rent and slowly displacing the long-term residents who built the community. By moving in, you benefit from the affordability and culture, but you also directly contribute to the forces that are destroying it.
