The Cultural Appropriation
A talented chef from a dominant culture travels and studies the cuisine of a minority culture. They return home and open a highly successful, critically acclaimed restaurant serving that cuisine. The chef is praised for their skill and for introducing the food to a new audience. However, members of the minority community point out that they have been running small, struggling restaurants serving the same food for years without recognition, and that the chef is profiting from their culture in a way they cannot. Is the chef's restaurant a form of appreciation or harmful appropriation?
